The CGB visits the Apple Orchard!

And she's back! The CGB, or Cutest Guest Blogger is going to tell you about her week!

Hi, everybody!

What do you think of my new puppy? I love him very much, and he's great to take naps with!

In other news: My class went to an apple orchard last week!

First, we waited patiently for our tour guide!

We were very good waiters.

Then we followed her to the apple orchard!She told us that there were lots of different kinds of apples:
green ones and red ones and yellow ones!

We walked between some rows of apple trees.
We saw some trees that had lots and lots of apples.
We also saw some trees that the apple lady told us hadn't gotten enough water,
and they didn't really grow very good apples.

She picked a nice red apple to show us what a good apple looks like.
Then she pointed out some apples that had fallen to the ground that weren't so good.

When we got to the end of the rows, there was a fence to keep us out of the pond that was behind the orchard. And behind the pond were grape vines!
We also got to see some geese swimming in the pond!

Then we started walking back up towards where we had started, between two other rows of apples. Then the apple lady stopped us and showed us how to pick apples!

My teacher, Mrs. B, held me up high so I could reach a yummy apple!

I proudly showed my apple to Mommy.

And then I showed my apple to my friend Miriam, who had also picked an apple!

Then I picked an apple for Mommy. She liked it lots!

Then we walked by a barn with some tractors!

Then the apple lady showed us how they picked apples with a special bag!

It has a hole in the bottom but it folds up so they don't fall out until your bag is full,
then they unhook it,

And pour the apples into a box!

We headed back to the seating area

...and the apple lady gave us some grape juice from the grapes they had grown!
It was very yummy!

It would have been apple cider,
but they didn't have any because there weren't a lot of apple that grew this
year because there wasn't enough rain.

While we waited for the bus to come back we wandered around and played.
We even found a funny looking bug!

Then we got back on the bus and went back to school!
When I got home, I ate my apple at lunch. It tasted very good.

I love going to school, but I really love coming home and seeing Mommy and my Kellen.

The Cutest Guest Blogger: Kady!

So, I some fun news! Since my birthday was Monday,

On Tuesday, I had my:

Mommy drove me to the school and took me inside.

And my teacher, Mrs. Bolton, helped me find my cubby!

That's where I hang my 'pack-pack' while I'm learning!

Then I went in my classroom and found the other kids were having breakfast!

I love cereal, so I had some too!

Then at 11, Mommy came and picked me up!
I wasn't so excited about getting my picture taken with my teacher.

But I had a very fun first day of school.
I'm very glad my friend Miriam was there, because it made me happy to be there!

Then after my second day of school was done, I got to ride the bus home. Mommy was waiting for me, and I waved goodbye to the bus before we went home.

I've been very good about school all week, and I love going and learning about new things like writing my name, bugs, bitsy spiders, and when my birthday is!

I love being 3!

Sweet Boy!

So, my July 13th due date had me up at 5 in the morning because I was so uncomfortable, and later going to the Dr. for my last prenatal appt! Whoo-hoo! I was ready for this kid to be out!

So, they checked my urine (gross, I know, but important to the story) and my blood pressure. My pee had 5 units of sugar in it, and it had never had any in it before. And my blood pressure had gone up 30 pts. Those two things=possible gestational diabetes. FUN! So, that plus Emily telling the Dr. that she (Emily) HAD to be there for the birth, (and could she catch the baby, too?) = the Dr. sending me to the hospital to be induced, because I had finally gotten lucky, and there were no other OB patients in that day!
So, we go to the hospital, got me all hooked up (I had my flippin' IV line in for 15 hrs before it got used, so that was fun) and we hurried up and waited.
For 12 hrs. Then, since the induction didn't quite go as well as hoped for, at 1 in the morning, they broke my water. 4 hrs and 15 minutes later, Kellen was finally out and being humble about his lung power. He just didn't want to cry that much! No one but the Dr. minded all that much!

Our family has grown...

So, I know it's been awhile, but well, I'm going to be better! I'm also going to be better about my Etsy shop, and try and put more stuff in there, so I might actually sell something!

Anyway, I know Easter was a few weeks ago, but I always seem to be behind (something else I'm working on) so I'll just say that Kady and I were down for two weeks, we had a lovely time, and here are the pics!

The First of the Raggedy Anns

Here's Elphaba before her haircut, and before her clothes are done. I'm planning on a black dress, which is cut out, and instead of an apron, she'll have a cape, which will have green ric-rac along the bottom like the aprons do, and I think I'll do her panties green.

It'll be a bit though, as we'll we working on moving upstairs this next week, as Bob and Kristy leave for their mission on Saturday!

So, two YEARS ago, I started on this set of Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for Kady. They take a lot of time, and the hair is a pain to sew on, so I'm working on them in increments. My lovely sister Tara has been sewing crazy cool stuff lately, and it inspired me to get working on them again. So, here are the two I have finished: Tin Man, who has been finished for awhile:

Well, we got to see our house burn down today! And unlike probably 99% of house fires, this one was planned and greatly anticipated!

Well, first of all, here's my little kidney bean:

Cute, right? Can't wait to meet him or her! The baby doesn't have a name nickname, like Kady was Arthur until we found out she was a girl, so I've just been calling him my kidney bean. He'll be joining us sometime between the 13th and 16th of July!

In other news, in the three months since I've posted (sorry to get so behind!) Stuff's happened. We moved in with Bob and Kristy, who are also hosting Karl, Saren, and Jace. And in April, they're going to be joined by their second child, who they should be finding out the sex of sometime in the next few weeks!

We still haven't had our house burned down, so that stinks, but it'll happen soon! We hope!

In November, my Grandma Fredrick finally passed away, after spending 1 year and 8 months in a hospital bed. We've really missed her, especially Gramps, who has moved back to MO. The holidays were hard, but we did our best to include her, and I think we all felt her spirit sharing her love with us.

Then, the day after her MO memorial, on my parent's 40th wedding anniversary, Sierra married her boyfriend Sean, who just left a few days ago for boot camp! Luckily Sierra has school, work, and family to keep her occupied, so hopefully she doesn't get too gloomy with out him around!

We spent Thanksgiving with my family this year because Bob and Kristy decided to go spend it in CA and see all the kids out West.

So, a few days after the memorial and the wedding, both of which had food, we had Thanksgiving! Mom was BUSY that week! The food was great, I just wish I could have eaten more! But my stomach's shrunk a bit from morning sickness, so I wasn't able to eat tons.

We went down early, and I was able to see Nikki! And her husband Michael, who is going to be going to school out here in IL only an hour away sometime this next summer! I'm excited to be living within a driving distance of her again! And I wish I didn't have to wait until July to see the baby she's going to be having next month, who will be named Joshua Reed Davison!

Then a few days before Christmas, Kyle and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary! My husband is the sweetest and best man I could have ever hoped to be sealed to for time and eternity, and I'm glad he loves me too! Poor guy, he wanted to go see Tron, but after we ate we ended up going back to my parents because my stomach started acting up.

Then Christmas! This year we spent with my family, and it was jam-packed with fun! Christmas Eve we all exchanged gifts with our families, and we had Mellisa and Adam again!

Kristy, with a little help from me, made car organizers for Abrahm, Matteo, and Santana, which they LOVED! Mellisa got some Avon stuff, and she also got a new embroidered name thing, since she gave her other one to her Mil, Soccoro. And for Adam we found a fun pack of spicy sauces, which he shared with everyone the next day at our Mexican fiesta!

Emily had us, and we got a very cute clock, Kyle got a keychain flashlight and Oreos, I got a little scrapbooking kit and some peppermint chocolates, and Kady got the cutest stuffed frog, and a neat little Noah and the Ark magnetic playset that we're putting to use on Sundays to keep her quiet during Sacrament.

Christmas Day of course we had fried bread! Kady didn't like her unsugared piece, but once she took a bite of a powdered sugar one she snatched off my plate, she loved them!

Then, at two, our Mexican Fiesta! Lots of wonderfully yummy food! I had a hard time stopping! And then we had a Scavenger Hunt for the kids under 10! I made up clues that led them from one place to another, then finally to a bag full of goodie bags for each of them, made lovingly by my mom. They had lots of fun! Then there was a White Elephant for the adults and kids over 10. Poor Ephraim, I don't think he's ever going to forget the Horny Goat Weed! And Kyle and I had to giggle, because we ended up with the books that we had put in! So much for getting rid of them! We left them at my parents' when we left.

Then, last night was New Year's Eve! We went over to Peter and Nichole Ivie's and all three of us enjoyed ourselves! We had to leave earlier then we would have liked though, because of me having the beginnings of a migraine.

So, not only has it been a crazy few months, it's been a crazy year! Here's hoping that 2011 is even better!

Grape Festival

So, every year, Nauvoo has a Grape Festival during Labor Day weekend. This year Kady was able to go on some of the rides. Here are the pics of her enjoying herself on a train and the bouncy house. She also went on the giant slide with Kyle, but I took a video of that and you can't see them very well, so I won't put it up. Anyway, to the pictures!

So, I have a friend, Hannah, due in October, and I found these fabrics, thread, and buttons, and I knew I had to make something for her little girl, who will be named Dinah, something special.

SO....here they are! A reversible carseat cover,

And, as you can see in the first pic, a reversible (matching) carseat blanket!

Here are two other ones, the red print is for Hannah's sister-in-law Silipa, who is due just a few weeks after Hannah, and the other is for my friend Erika, who is hoping to have her baby any day now!

Well, I haven't really taken any pictures this week, cause not much has happened picture-wise besides Kady still being unbelievable cute.

However, this week I placed my first order with Avon, and I seemed to have done an okay job of filling in all the information, and sending in the right amount of money, because I'm now waiting (anxiously) for the packages to arrive.

Like I said, Kady's still cute.

I know I posted a bit of a teaser with my last post, but I was just so excited about this! I found a book called 'Making Children's Clothes' at Hobby Lobby on Saturday, and I looked through it a bit, and all the clothes looked so cute, and some of the patterns even looked like they could be easy, so I got some flannel from Kristy, and yesterday I started this dress. Then, just when I was getting near finishing it, my machine started acting up, and I couldn't find my machine manual, and so I couldn't figure out what was wrong, so I just left it. Then this afternoon, something Kyle said made me think of a place to look, I found it, and I didn't really do anything and the machine for some reason started working again. So, in about an hour, I had the dress finished, and I went and found Kady. So here she is in her nightgown! She really likes it, and I'm really happy she likes it.

Crochet is all I wanna do all day

So, I've been thinking. I need to do more posts. So, I'm going to try for once a week. We'll see how that goes, and maybe try to bump it up.

Anyway, here are some projects I've been working on...

First, the Cowboy booties:

These are the five colors that I'm going to sell the cowboy boots in. These will probably be the same colors I do the sandal booties in.

Second, are the Roller Skate booties:

Last of the booties, the Pioneer booties:

Not the most attractive, but I think they might sell here in Old Nauvoo.

Last, a little project for myself. It's a pattern I found awhile ago, but I wanted to see if I found something I liked better. Then I forgot, then I looked again for patterns for crochet hook cases, and I found this pattern again, and I liked it more this time. Anyway, I just made it 1 stitch longer, wish I had made it 6 though, I did the strips, I did two buttons instead of one, and I crocheted around the edge to give it a nicer finish. I don't know if I'll add the daisy, but we'll see. Anyway, here is my finished case, already in use:

The Female Relief Society of Nauvoo

So, the Relief Society had it's birthday this past month, and as I've been dying to make a Beehive cake for a year now, I volunteered my services to make the cake for the party. However, the Beehive cake wouldn't have been enough to serve everyone, so I decided to make a chocolate cake to accompany it. The Beehive was really easy, cause I just used the Wonder-Mold pan for the top, and to get the beehive shape, I made an 8-inch round cake for the bottom.

For the chocolate cake, I tried doing a silhouette of Emma Smith, but it didn't look good at all, so I made it a little bigger, and did a cut out with paper and stuck it on top and put a giant 168 above that, because the RS is 168 years old!

Also, since I live in Nauvoo, I got to be in the Relief Society Re-enactment again, and once again I got to be Nancy Naomi Alexander Tracy.

This is what I got to say:
The Relief Society was organized with 28 original members, some of whom were not in attendance at the first meeting. In the second meeting, 48 new members were added. I, Nancy Naomi Alexander Tracy, was blessed to be one of them.

Eight subsequent meetings of the Relief Society were held in this room. Sometimes Brother Joseph would come and instruct us. At one time in particular I remember of Emma bringing him in, and he prayed at the opening of the meeting. He was full of the Spirit of God. His whole frame shook and his face shone and looked almost transparent. (Pauses thoughtfully, then adds with gratitude) Oh, so many great and glorious instructions were given us here in this room.

So, if you ever have the chance go to the Women's Retreat held here in Nauvoo every March. It is incredible, and the speakers amazing, and it's a wonderful bonding experience. My mom and some sisters were able to come last year and it was wonderful to get to share the experience with them.

My Eternal Valentine

At lunch today Kyle told me he had a few things planned for our Valentine's evening out, so I was excited. Kyle's not a huge celebrator of holidays like I am, so I figured he just meant going out and maybe catching a movie. We haven't been to a movie together in awhile.

So, after lunch I did my normal(Thursday) activities, watching my shows and catching up on my sites. Then, at about 3:30, as I was about to go take a shower so I'd look nice for my husband, I heard the door opening. Looking out the window, I saw that Kyle's truck was back. What was he doing back? Why'd he take off work 1/2 hr early? So, I went into the kitchen, and what did my eyes behold, but a big red bag with roses and a monkey sticking out! But there was more! And here it is:

My giant bag was filled with a giant heart pillow, a stuffed monkey (which we gave to Kady, and she loves), some lemongrass aromatherapy from Bath and Body Works, a beautiful card with a gift certificate to get my nails done, Twilight candies, red roses (my favorite!), and a gift bag from Kays Jewelers, where we got my engagement ring! Inside that bag were two boxes: one with a gold chain for a necklace piece he'd given me for Christmas, and some gold earrings with lovely diamonds!

I love my present, but I love my husband even more! I tried telling him that I was sorry my present wasn't as good, and that I was planning on doing more housework and everything, but he stopped me and said "If you're happy, I could have nothing and be happy." Isn't he the best? He's more then made up for his past gift giving fiascoes.

So, all in all, I think Elizabeth Barrett Browning sums up how I feel about Kyle:

Here is my darling little girl at my niece Sierra's !16TH! birthday party a month ago. I've been meaning to blog, but Kyle got himself a nice new(ish) computer, so this one got moved to the living room, and the printer hasn't been networked yet, cause we need some cabled or something.

So, this is pilfered off facebook, which I should do more often.

Anyway, updates: Kyle still likes his job, and is still a fantastic fellow all around.

Kady, however, is in her SECOND year of life. Which means what you think it does. She's a temper tantrum throwing princess. And her favorite people in the world are Daddy and Grandma. She gets pretty excited when I start getting her jacket and hat(which looks like grapes, btw) out, because she knows we're going somewhere, and if Daddy's coming too, then chances are we're going to Grandma's. Sometimes she doesn't really care, but once she realized we're at Grandma's, she's all smiles. She's also changed her schedule. Last year, when we had church in the mornings, she took a morning nap. Now, just in time for us to change to the afternoon shift of church, she now takes afternoon naps. But then she smiles, and it's usually all better.

As for me, I've just been doing a lot of crocheting, and the past week I've been trying to walk more. Kristy got herself, Saren and I pedometers, so now I know how much I walk. Which isn't a lot, but I've been getting myself up in the mornings to go on little walk around our driveway/property, so that's really helped stack up the miles. And later this month I'll be going back down to MO, so I can do a birthday thing with my friend Whitney, and I'll be there for Tara/Jerica's birthday celebrations, so I have to figure out what to do for a cake, so that'll be tons of fun. And when I come back I'll be bringing my friend Tiffany with me, so we'll enjoy planning a bachelorette party for our friend Audrey, and putting together stuff for that. And we'll be using each other as crutches to exercise and eat better.

So, that's about all that's been going on since my last post.

These cupcakes and cake were for a woman named Maxine, who was throwing herself a 39 Forever, Forever 39 party. In actuality, it was her 75th birthday. Anyway, I heard it looked beautiful and was a lot of fun.

I think this was the most frequent design, as it was the easiest.

The Centerpiece. It was the combination of two cakes, the Standing Ovation, and the Can't Contain Our Excitement! I could only get a picture of the one it looks the most like. It was supposed to have streamers coming off also, but the fondant didn't cooperate, and I didn't give it enough time to dry.

Kady and the Treehouse

Last summer Grandpa Combs started a treehouse. With the help of some grandsons, he got the platform done.

In the mean time, the Combs family was joined by a beautiful little girl. And a handsome little boy.

And the little girl moved into the house by the treehouse. Then summer came again, and the big grandkids were coming for a visit. So Grandma Combs, with some friends to help, started working on finishing the treehouse.

More pics to follow when it's done. I just wanted to do a post.

Well, Tara always has quotes for her titles, so I thought I'd try.

Easter was lovely this year. Kady wore a dress made for her by Grandma Combs, and she looked beautiful for our family pics!

When I was little, we'd watch the first half of the Ten Commandments every year. The movie was so long, it was on past my bed time, or I just wouldn't last. Maybe that's why I don't like watching the beginnings of movies over and over without seeing the end. It just doesn't seem worth it. But really, isn't that how life is?

You see Moses' mother and sister go to the river, place him in a basket, and let him go. Would I be able to do that with Kady? I think not. Why would God do that? Why then would He have Moses grow up in the household of the man who wanted to kill him?

When I was little, I couldn't have told you the answer from watching the movie. As I got older, and could connect the Bible story with the movie, it made more sense- Moses had to grow up the way he did so that he would be humbled, and would have the skills and ability to free and lead his people out of Egypt.

So, Easter is a time to reflect on what we cannot see. We cannot see the whole picture, and we shouldn't forget that maybe there is a reason that something bad or not so great has happened to you.

Well this past week we got our last visit for awhile from Karl, Saren, and Jace. Then we heard about something going on at the mall that we just couldn't miss out on!

This pics from when KS&J visited with Creed. Kady really enjoyed visit. Jace 'shared' some of his gym toys with her, so she was good for us while we went to the temple.

What's this? Jealousy? Poor little lions in the next cage, not very many people visited them, and they noticed!

Next we visited the bears! The babies had to say out though, cause these babies were teething, so Karl stayed out, then I switched him places.

You ever get that feeling that if something happens, it's happening to you? I had that feeling up until seconds after this pics was taken. When the bear peed on me.

We were so good with the animals, they let us take some home!

The Female Relief Society of Nauvoo

I got to be in the Relief Society Re-enactment this past Thursday and Friday, and I got to play an ancestor of mine, Nancy Naomi Alexander Tracy.

Here's 'Nancy' with Joseph and Emma. They were the sweetest couple! I hope they're able to come back next year.

I was so glad to be able to participate in the Re-enactment, and I wish that every person I knew were able to see it.

Here's my girl! Some of these pics are from GR, but well, I haven't updated in awhile. But as probably all of you know, Kyle and I have moved to Nauvoo, where he has a job with NRI. NRI stands for Nauvoo Restoration Inc. They're who takes care of all the historical homes, sites, and land down on the "flats" here.

We love being here, and are grateful for Kristy, one because she is teaching me all sorts of new things, and two because she babysits a lot for us, allowing us to go to the temple once a week. It's been tons of fun, and we hope to soon move into the house that Bob and Kristy are fixing up for us, and I will do a blog on that sometime.

Kady is getting SO big! And she's starting to laugh, and have fun playing in the bathtub. She's four months, and just now starting to wear 3-6 month sleepers. I think she'll be in the 0-3 onesies for awhile now yet.

The animals are doing good, Digby is slowly but surely learning sit, and Simon and Siam are having fun being alone at our new house. And when they can escape, Simon loves to "help" Bob with anything.

Kyle finally got to MO! Yay! Lovely day! He got to help Dad, Andy, and Jared finish up the renovations that Dad insisted needed doing. The former Bidia house has an all new bathroom! All that was going to be done was paint the tub, put in a new surround, put in a cabinet, replace the plumbing, and redo the floor. Instead, the chimney got ripped out, the walls were taken down, the plumbing extensively redone, the gas-line moved, a totally new shower, a new sink, and a cabinet put in. Then some rewiring was redone, outlets moved and added, phone lines put in, a new wall in the kitchen, and insulation put in the attic.

Kyle's parents came for a short visit, and they brought us all the stuff we had left up there, and his mom, Kristy, showed us the beautiful blessing dress she's making for Honey, and the dress that she may be remaking into an Easter dress for our girl.

I've gotten a calling in Primary: Primary worker! I get to help with the Sunbeams, the little angels. I was helping Sis. Dot Carr, who is not in Relief Society, and then I'll be helping the new teacher until I have the baby, then I'm taking a few weeks off, then I'll start working with the kids that will be in Sunbeams next year, then I'll be in Sunbeams next year.

I've hit the ninth month of pregnancy! Yesterday I hit the 38 week mark! And midnight on Thursday, I had my first and hopefully only false alarm! I am ready for this kid to make her entrance, but apparently, my body isn't. Hopefully soon, but time will tell.

Kyle and I moved into our first house! It's a rental, but our landlords are pretty awesome. Our cats are getting used the the new space and seem to finally be getting used to each other and getting along. And Kyle seems to really want to give our boys (Siam and Simon) a little kitty sister along with the human one they'll be getting soon. The fam thinks he's crazy. Besides that, Kyle seems to be fitting in quite well around here, and seems to enjoy "getting in the mix" as we call it around here.

Well, I've gotta go home now, so hopefully the next time I blog, there will be a beautiful little brand-new baby girl sleeping in a carseat next to my computer chair.

Well, despite my whining, I miss Baltimore. Technically, my husband, our kitten, and my new friend Shay and her boys, but we'll just generalize for now.

So, I'm back in MO! Here's what I've been up to since:
Monday: Swimming and getting sunburned! And getting to see nieces and nephews, and teaching Jerica and Monkey to swim. Jerica can swim all the way across the pool without help, but she still needs her floaties! And Monkey can swim a little over half way, he could do the whole way, but he doesn't have Jerica's confidence.

Tuesday: This day was a fun day in Warrensburg with Mom and Em. Doctor's appt, which included Emily telling the Dr. she wanted it on my records that I was definitely getting an IUD after Honey comes (poor girl didn't have anyone to do that for her.)

Wednesday: Watched the twins and Santana, and that's all I can remember.

Thursday: Went to the Fair with Tiffy for dollar day. We had fun wandering around, and we ran into Danial Holofchak, and we talked with him for a long while, and then walked around more, then got each got a funnel cake with Bavarian cream (yum!) and chocolate syrup. Then we went to El Tap and gorged some more. Then back to my house to wash baby clothes and watch Penelope. Good movie! Then I showed Tiffy the wonder that is Josh Turner, and some funny bits from Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog. Good movie/blog/tv show/ thing.

Friday: Lovely day at the temple with Mom, Dad, and Mellisa. Good times. Annie and Emily (Mostly Annie) were nice enought to watch Mellisa's munchkin's so that she could go. Honey had fun jumping on my bladder and nudging my ribs.

...mostly cause they or you go off and get married. And hopefully when that happens, the married one moves out.

So, Tara called me today looking for quotes on families being forever, sisters, brothers, and siblings in general, and it got me thinking about stuff.

We have things in common, and we have individual talents. And even though we don't always get along, and we don't always like each other, we'll always love each other.

Now to brag. My siblings are people of many talents and achievements. Here's just the tip of the iceberg:

Mellisa does wonderful things with people's hair and is organized, which is good, cause she has three kids.
Annie is great at mixing paper, glue, pictures and quotes into scrapbooks, and at mixing ingredients into yummies.
Emily is great to have at your side when bargains are to be had and someone needs to be told to do something.
Ben is good for a laugh, and good at distracting little kids.
Will is a good salesman and a very good artist.
Tara is good at things that take patience and creativity, and can bake some awesome cookies.
And I am good at remembering random things about history, books, and arguments you and I had 5 years ago. I also read pretty darn fast (As can Tara and Annie).

As for the girls, we all have wonderfully nice singing voices. The boys might too, but I've never heard either sing, so I don't know.

Ask any of my siblings, and they'll tell you I have a temper. Ask me, and I'll tell you the same about them. It's something we all have in common with our parents.

We're also all pretty darn good people. And we personify the quote: 'Family is like fudge- mostly sweet with a couple nuts.' And we all like fudge, so it fits. But make sure Tara's doesn't have nuts, Mom.
